Description
Ash Creek, established in 1997, is a natural resource restoration firm which provides a broad range of on -the-ground land management goods and services. We specialize in developing land management and mitigation plans, implementing complex wetland restoration and mitigation projects, and preparing detailed planting plans.
Position Overview:
Ash Creek Forest Management, LLC is seeking Forestry/Restoration Crew Members with skills and experience to assist with plant installation, maintenance, management and monitoring of ecological restoration projects in the greater Portland Metro area.
Responsibilities:
- Control noxious weeds through careful, precise application of herbicides using backpack sprayers
- Load, organize, maintain and deliver plants, equipment and tools to project sites
- Repair, clean and maintain all hand and power tools in operating condition
- Maintain native tree and shrub plantings using hand-tools and power tools
- Prepare and install native plant pole cuttings
- Operate company implements, such as tractors, ATVs and trucks
- Monitor conditions at selected project sites
- Install container plants, plugs and bulbs
- Other general labor duties as assigned
- Hand-water planted trees and shrubs
- Prepare collected seeds for sowing
- Plant bare-root trees and shrubs
- Collect native plant seed
Qualifications:
Experience/Qualifications (Required):
- Ability, motivation and endurance for eight to ten hours of productive manual labor
- Ability to work outdoors across uneven terrain during inclement weather
- Experience using hand and power tools (Chainsaw, shovel, hoedad, etc.)
- Ability to safely lift 60 pounds
- Valid driver's license
Experience/Qualifications (Desired):
- Chemical Applicator's License (OR) and skill with herbicide application methods
- Ability to navigate the urban and rural Portland metro area
- Knowledge of Oregon native plants and habitats
- Math skills and organizational ability
- Spanish/English language skills
- First AID/CPR certification
- Horticultural skills
- Provide own transportation to work sites, Tigard office, other planned locations, or ride in company provided carpool vehicle
Compensation: $12 per hour to start with opportunities for advancement including hourly wage increases, commensurate with experience, paid leave and paid holidays.
