Description
Promote vegetarian nutrition while learning valuable skills!
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization working toward effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. For the last 26 years, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do.
Position Overview:
PCRM is presently able to host an individual seeking to learn practical applications of new program development and marketing strategy through events, promotions, campaigns, and research. PCRM's Marketing Intern will work alongside our Educational Programs and Marketing Director and assist in promoting the mission, programs, and services of PCRM's Food for Life program through Web and e-mail marketing, event marketing, product marketing, public relations, marketing research, and program development. The Food for Life program includes the Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes, Food for Life instructor and partner training, Food for Life Seminar, Food for Life Employee Wellness Program, Food for Life e-Newsletter and Food for Life Recipe of the Week e-mail.
PCRM interns not only get to work on a daily basis with our experienced team of doctors, nutritionists, clinical researchers, and nonprofit professionals, but may have the opportunity to participate in staff education sessions, journal article discussions, Capitol Hill briefings, fundraisers, and other PCRM events. All interns will receive a full-day orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor.
NOTE: Position is available for summer 2012. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis for both summer and fall semesters.
Qualifications:
- Applicants should be pursuing a field of study relating to marketing or nonprofit management and considering a career in the field of marketing and/or nonprofit management (PCRM will assist interns in obtaining course credit as applicable).
- Applicants should have a strong interest in learning about vegetarian/vegan nutrition.
Terms: PCRM is presently open to internships of various durations, schedules, and start dates (see note above). PCRM is located in the metro-accessible Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C.
Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer internship and is not available as employment. Free housing accommodations may be available if needed.
