Description

The Center for Progressive Leadership (CPL) is a national training institute dedicated to building the next generation of progressive political leaders and activists. Through intensive training programs for youth, activists, and candidates, CPL inspires and empowers progressives across the country to take an active role in our nations political future.

Starting in May, CPL will launch its Field Training Program, focused on recruiting, training and supporting progressive activists across the country. CPL activists will become field organizers and directors for progressive organizations implementing issue advocacy and GOTV field campaigns. By training over 1,000 activists in organizing techniques in 2004, CPLs Field Training program will provide progressives with critical ground troops for informing and engaging voters across the country.

Job Description:

The Field Training Program Director will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and promotion of the Field Training program.

Responsibilities include:

1. Staff Recruitment and Oversight:
The Director will manage 3-4 full-time staff and several interns. The Director will be expected to help in recruiting and selecting this team. The Director will also work to assemble teams of experienced trainers for each training session.

2. Program Design:
Working with the CPL Board and staff, the Director will develop a curriculum to train activists in basic field organizing techniques.

3. Activist Recruitment:
The Director will develop and implement the program's recruitment strategy to attract over 1,000 talented activists for the trainings. Recruitment strategies will include outreach to campuses, activist networks, and online communities.

4. Organize Logistics of Training:
The Director will ensure that all training logistics are in place for each training.

5. Administration:
The Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of record keeping, budgeting, and program administration.

6. Activist Placement:
The Director will develop relationships with progressive organizations across the country to create a placement network for trainees. The Field Training program will include a job fair at the end of each training, as well as online job postings on the CPL website.

Location:

The training Director will be based in Washington, DC and will be expected to travel as needed to the locations of the scheduled trainings.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary for this position will be $45,000 - $65,000, commensurate with the level of relevant professional experience that the candidate has.

This position will begin in early April and conclude in September 2004. Preference will be given to candidates who would consider transitioning to another position within the CPL staff structure at that time.

Additional Qualifications:

Excellent staff and program management skills. Experience conducting field campaigns and trainings. Experience with staff oversight and program management. Strong written and verbal skills. Experience with minority communities preferred.
