Position Overview:
Environmental & Marine Consulting Services, Inc. is seeking qualified applicants to fill up to 2 "Field Environmental Scientist" positions in its Martin County Office.
Qualifications:
- The successful applicants will have at least 2 years of experience collecting environmental and/or water quality samples for low-concentration parameters; 4 years of experience is preferred;
- A minimum of an Associate's degree in a Natural or Physical Science, or other related field is require; and
- The applicant must possess and demonstrate knowledge of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures SOPs for water quality sampling, the South Florida Water Management District's Field Sampling Quality Manual (FSQM) and knowledge of general water chemistry.
In addition, the applicant must be skilled and proficient in their ability to:
- Calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment, including multi parameter water quality sondes, automatic water samplers, ground water monitoring equipment, and sediment dredges;
- Accurately document all field activities;
- Operate computer hardware and software used to record and upload multi-parameter sonde calibrations and field activities and observations; and
- Collect surface water samples and measurements using proper quality assurance/quality control and standard operating procedures.
All applicants must have the ability to:
- Swim;
- Lift up to 40 pounds;
- Work for extended periods of time in the field, under hot or cold, humid, wet conditions and in areas occupied by wildlife such as alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects;
- Drive and/or ride in vehicles over rough terrain;
- Operate and/or ride in boats for extended periods of time; and
- Wade into water to collect samples.
Preferred skills include the ability to:
- Collect surface water, groundwater, atmospheric deposition (rain), soil, sediment and flow measurements; and
- Tow and operate boats.
