Description

Coskata, Inc. is a biology-based renewable energy company, with technology for the production of liquid fuels. Using proprietary microorganisms and transformative bioreactor designs, the company will produce ethanol for under US$1.00 per gallon anywhere in the world, from almost any input material (feedstock).

Position Overview:

In this position the Fermentation Scientist/Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team to improve the production of biofuels from lab-scale (2-15L) anaerobic syngas fermentation systems, and successfully contribute to completion of key projects and business objectives.

Qualifications:

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree required in microbiology, biochemistry, engineering, or related science. Ph.D preferred.
  • 5 years of related experience, including 2 or more years of experience in the culture maintenance and cultivation of obligate anaerobic bacteria, including bacteria from the genus, Clostridium.
  • In-depth knowledge of microbial metabolism and fermentation process development using DOE and statistical process improvement techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of steam-sterilizable continuous stirred tank reactors with cell recycle for production of biofuels or other bioproducts.
  • Experience analyzing fermentation broths and cell-free extracts using enzyme assays, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography (GC), or GC-mass spectrometry (MS).
  • Ability to independently design experiments, complete research objectives, and conduct troubleshooting on fermentation systems and analytical instruments.
  • Experience generating peer-reviewed publications and invention disclosures.
