Responsibilities

Major Tasks Performed:

  • Develops and helps to implement sustainability recommendations and plans for Portland facility.
  • Develops programs and assists in helping to implement sustainability goals.
  • Organizes facilities education with sustainability and other issues.
  • May be assigned as a staff liaison with a specific board, commission or committee, providing advice and assistance.
  • Assists in preparing and implementing environmental management systems where appropriate.
  • Ensures that the Portland facilities are safe, orderly and in good repair.
  • This includes but is not limited to overseeing the janitorial and landscaping contractors.
  • Maintains operational compliance with Safety and Fiscal policies.
  • Assists partners who use the facility for events, provide access for after hours and weekend events, and ensure security of the building and contents during such events.
  • Provides logistic support for various offsite events and for the events of partners using the facility.
  • Works with other staff on planning, selection, purchasing, inventory, inspection/maintenance, repair and disposal of equipment.
  • Improves and updates current equipment inventory system; keep inventory current.
  • Suggests improvements to facilities and equipment systems to improve performance and reduce environmental impact and cost.
  • Oversees lunchroom during meals to ensure smooth operation.
  • Determines staffing needs, interviews, hires and orients new staff.
  • Counsels, guides and disciplines staff as necessary.
  • Initiates and executes formal and informal job training for staff members.
  • Completes related reports, including payroll, on a timely basis.
  • Manages time keeping and attendance.
  • Becomes familiar with each job performed and equipment in lunchroom.
  • Ensures that necessary supplies are available for complete meal service.
  • Schedules staff as necessary.
    Informs manager of necessary repairs and potential improvements for service.
  • Participates in and plans special events and selected catered activities.
  • Maintains appropriate communication between all staff members and supervisor.
  • Assists in designing and maintaining quality service standards in dining area.
  • Perform routine Administrative, Managerial and Human Resource functions as required.

Basic Qualifications 

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree or at least 4 years of equivalent experience
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Sustainability Management or related field strongly preferred
  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented with good follow-up practices and customer focus
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized and able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and successfully lead work teams (interpersonal and leadership skills)
  • Ability to carry out specific instructions and general directions using proactive problem-solving skills and to solve problems involving multiple variables
