Panthera, founded in 2006, is the world's leading organization devoted exclusively to the conservation of wild cats and their ecosystems. Utilizing the expertise of the world's premier cat biologists, Panthera develops and implements global conservation strategies for the most imperiled large cats. Representing the most comprehensive effort of its kind, Panthera works in partnership with local and international NGOs, scientific institutions, local communities, governments and the private sector.
Position Overview:
This position will entail senior level oversight of all elements of Panthera's Tiger Program. The incumbent will work in coordination with Panthera's New York Directorate including the Board, and with program field staff to establish and direct program strategy and approaches for tiger conservation throughout Asia.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and implementation of program priorities, including oversight of Panthera's existing tiger projects, and assisting the planning and establishment of new projects throughout tiger range. In coordination with program staff, oversee the local technical, operational, and administrative management of the program.
- Represent Panthera and its projects at the senior level with tiger range country governments, governmental agencies, donors and other NGOs through meetings, speaking engagements and media interviews inter alia.
- Provide guidance to project development and implementation. Assist field staff in project design and execution through site visits and consultation; maintain regular contact and provide regular feedback to staff; monitor and evaluate project and individual progress.
- Contribute to articles, technical manuals, educational materials, and other project publications, as required.
- Contribute to raising awareness of Panthera and its projects through attendance at professional meetings, providing interviews and support to media requests.
- Participate in fund-raising activities when appropriate via activities such as identifying new funding sources, meeting private and agency donors, and speaking at special events. Assist in preparing donor reports and proposals; maintain contact and reporting with funding sources
- Oversee the preparation of long-term program strategy documents and annual work plans.
Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent advanced experience in relevant field, such as conservation biology/zoology/ecology; human dimensions of natural resource management including policy development/implementation/governance; or related field germane to biodiversity conservation.
- Demonstrated strong working knowledge of, and experience with conservation issues in Asia, with an emphasis on subtropical/tropical Asia preferred. Experience with large carnivore conservation is desirable.
- At least 5 years post-graduate experience in non-profit or relevant for-profit large project management and administration, including direct oversight of multiple staff and 6-plus figure budgets. Experience with memoranda of understanding, legal contracts, grant agreements, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write, articulate, and synthesize information for governments, granting agencies, and the general public. Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships and collaborate effectively with mid to high level government representatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in an independent working environment,
- Demonstrated ability in raising funds and securing grants is desirable
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and record of successful achievement.
