Description

The Gulf of Mexico Reef Fish Shareholders' Alliance, created in May 2008, is a nonprofit trade organization of reef fish fishermen and others who recognize the economic, conservation and social benefits of a viable and modern commercial fishing industry.

The Alliance's mission is to unify and strengthen the reef fish industry's voice in support of individual fishing quotas as a means to achieve sustainable catch limits.  Members strive to find win-win solutions that conserve fish, reduce bycatch, protect the marine environment, improve safety and enhance economic value. They work with buyers and distributors to give consumers year-round access to high-quality, sustainable seafood.

  • Prepare the Alliance's policy statements, testimony, presentations and other materials with the Board of Directors, staff and consultants.
  • Monitor and comply with the approved budget.
  • Supervise staff and consultants.
  • Report to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in natural resource management, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years work experience in business, fisheries, coastal resource management or related field. Experience leading and/or starting up an organization or business a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build agreement and alliances among people with diverse interests.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and coordinate people.
  • Experience working with government agencies and legislative bodies.
