~ The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin was founded in 1971 by a group of citizens who wanted both to protect the region from immediate threats and to foster a wider understanding of its unique qualities. ~

The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin is a tenacious, highly effective grassroots advocacy organization founded in 1971 that is dedicated to the protection and appreciation of West Marin's wild lands, wildlife, wilderness, watersheds, and rural character.

EAC works for clean air, pure waters, healthy ecosystems, a diverse and thriving native flora and fauna, and the preservation of a rural, community spirit. EAC uses law, policy, science, and education to:

  • Monitor, publicize, and campaign against threats to West Marin's natural environment,
  • Educate the public and policy-makers about the environmental issues facing West Marin,
  • Provide reliable information about controversial issues in order to create a common ground of understanding and promote informed debate, and
  • Encourage and facilitate productive resolutions to land-use conflicts by working closely with those who own, manage, and use West Marin's lands.

Position Overview

The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC)is looking for a strong Executive Director to continue our excellent record of success and grow the organization. We need a dynamic, energetic leader with political savvy, creative vision, and an entrepreneurial spirit. This person will understand coastal and ocean issues, land use policy, science, regulation and conservation.

EAC is a highly effective 44-year-old grassroots organization that protects and improves environmental quality in western Marin County, California. We are located in Point Reyes Station. EAC is the leading voice to protect our region's public lands, rural character, wildlife and ocean resources. 

The Executive Director implements programs and policies set by the Board of Directors, supervises the development director, and manages fundraising, finances, grant applications and management, communications and outreach, and member cultivation.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Organizational Management:

  • Work with the Board to develop an annual action plan.
  • Direct all programs, operations and staff.
  • Organizational spokesperson.
  • Help recruit board members.
  • Work with other West Marin conservation organizations.
  • Manage and implement fundraising, outreach, community and environmental education events.
  • Develop and implement priority campaigns, programs, and work plans.
  • Focus public outreach and messaging through print and electronic communications.
  • Production of quarterly print newsletter, monthly e-news updates, and social media posts.

Financial and Fundraising:

  • Assure financial health of organization, including budgeting and fundraising.
  • Revenue from events, grants, major donors, and members.
  • Build relationships with major donors and foundations.
  • Membership relations.

Policy:

  • Represent EAC before county and state, and federal agencies.
  • Understand county, state and federal environmental policies and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Track record of advocacy success and commitment to resource protection.
  • Experience with and commitment to networking, teamwork, negotiation, relationship building, and diplomacy.
  • Passion for protecting the environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good computer skills
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in non-profit organizations, including some management.
  • Experience in environmental advocacy, including developing and presenting policy positions to agencies and the public.
  • Advanced degree in environmental studies, land use, law, marine science or related field desirable but not required.

Compensation:

  • Salary - $70,000 DOE
  • Benefits - Health Insurance, 401k, and Paid Vacation.
  • This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
