One of the oldest and most-cherished conservation and fishing advocacy groups in the Pacific Northwest, the Association of Northwest Steelheaders was founded in 1960. The Steelheaders mission is "anglers dedicated to enhancing and protecting fisheries and their habitats for today and tomorrow," and our vision is "responsible and enjoyable sport angling with good access to healthy, abundant and sustainable fisheries in Northwest's healthy watersheds."
Position Overview
The Association of Northwest Steelheaders is currently seeking an Executive Director. This position is responsible for the management of the Association's day-to-day operations and implementation of Association projects, programs, and campaigns.
The Executive Director is responsible for development of funding and growth of membership to support the organization's activities. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors and chapter leadership to develop campaigns and strategies relative to development, funding, and organizational accomplishments.
Responsibilities
- Management of the day-to-day operations of the organization
- Campaign, program, and project development, implementation, and management
- Strategic planning
- Strategic communications with the press
- Event management
- Donor and sponsor recruitment and relations
- Grant writing, grant-funded program implementation, and grant reporting
- Membership growth and development
- Grassroots and grasstops campaigns
- Volunteer recruitment and volunteer leader development
- Lobbying
- Marketing and promotions including web, social media, e-newsletter and magazine management
- Management of two part time employees and five contractors
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree or higher
Experience:
- Minimum five years working in nonprofit organizations with history of volunteer service and dependence on volunteer support, preferably in a leadership position
- Proven fundraising capabilities, and demonstrated ability to develop and expand funding sources
- Familiarity with fish propagation, fish habitat, fisheries, and other topics important to sport fishing and conservation in the Pacific Northwest
- Familiarity with state and federal policy, law and science regarding cold water fisheries
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with organizations, decision makers, and agencies
- Demonstrated ability to obtain and utilize financial information and develop appropriate fiscal plans and strategies associated with grants, sponsors, donors, membership, and fundraising events
- Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office, Adobe Create Suite, and WordPress software
- Demonstrated writing and editing ability
