The Great Old Broads for Wilderness (Broads) is a Durango-based national non-profit that uses the voices and activism of elders to preserve and protect wilderness and wild public lands. Our vision is that wild places will have the respect and protection needed to preserve them for future generations.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the operation of the organization including formulation and implementation of programs, finances, fundraising, staff management, membership development and communications, public relations and media outreach. The ED carries out these responsibilities in accordance with policies and strategic plans approved by the Board of Directors and reports periodically to the Board. The ED maintains a consultative and collegial relationship with directors, staff, and colleagues in the wilderness community and beyond.
Qualifications:
- A 4 year, post-secondary degree or better
- Strong verbal and written skills including public speaking experience and expertise and proven grant writing and management skills
- Residence in or relocation to the Four Corners area and ability to travel as needed
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel and internet functions
- Effective personnel management skills including the ability to listen with an open mind and administrative experience including budgeting and fiscal supervision
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, public lands agencies, and wild lands issues
- Proven fundraising ability
- Flexibility, passion and a sense of humor (the quality of "broadness")
- A long-term commitment to the environment and a love of outdoor life
- Vision to stretch the vista of the organization
Compensation: Compensation and benefits to be negotiated depending on experience and qualifications. Broads offers a working environment that includes a dedicated staff. The ED position is 40 hours per week or more as needed.
