Corporate Ethics International's (CEI) mission is to bringing corporations back in service to and under the control of citizens and civil society. It is an 8 year old organization with a small staff that operates virtually.
CEI is the home of the Business Ethics Network (BEN), which is comprised of 150 organizations and individuals who engage in various aspects of corporate campaigns to improve the social and environmental practices of companies.
BEN sponsors the Benny Awards for the top corporate campaigns and for individual achievement. It offers training programs on-line through its Corporate Campaign University (CCU). It also organizes and promotes webinars that will be helpful to its members. In addition to BEN, CEI also fundraises for and coordinates national and international campaigns such as the Big Box Campaign and most recently the International Tar Sands Oil Campaign. It is currently researching and preparing to play a coordinating role in a Chamber of Commerce Campaign.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing a vision for the organization and implementing that vision with support of the staff. S/he is the principal fundraiser and will be responsible for diversifying CEI's funding base, which is currently 95% foundation support.
While staff already run BEN and the Tar Sands Campaign, the ED will determine how BEN can expand to meet the needs of the campaign community through CCU, how the Benny Awards can become more prestigious, and how more networking and training opportunities can be created.
S/he will also be responsible for identifying a potential corporate campaign(s) that cuts across various BEN member groups and issues and would be appropriate for CEI fundraising and coordination (e.g., the Chamber of Commerce Campaign).
Finally, the ED will be responsible for exploring strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or even mergers with other organizations that serve the corporate campaign community.
Qualifications:
Experience with designing and conducting corporate campaigns; experience as a manager or supervisor; experience fundraising with foundations, events, and high donors; experience in capacity building, training and development for advocacy groups; general knowledge of either environmental, health and/or labor issues; knowledge of budgeting, cash flow, and financial reporting; excellent interpersonal, speaking, writing, and time management skills.
