The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. OTA's mission is to promote and protect the growth of organic trade, to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Board of Directors of OTA, the Executive Director has overall responsibility for the implementation of all activities and operations of the organization. The qualified candidate will have the skills to grow and maintain OTA as the acknowledged leader of the organic industry.
Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will have the ability to effectively develop and implement a strategic plan, and will be a unifying force for the association and the industry in general.
The successful candidate will bring a record of establishing strategic alliances that are leveraged to achieve desired public policy outcomes. As a dynamic communicator of ideas, the Executive Director will have the ability to establish and maintain effective external relations with members, individual donors, strategic allies, governmental bodies, nonprofit organizations and foundations.
S/he will also have experience building new funding relationships while cultivating existing relationships with key members, funders and donors.
Qualifications:
The person we seek will demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics of a membership-based organization, preferably with a trade association, advocacy group, nonprofit organization or public agency.
The ideal candidate will bring an excellent understanding of the principles of organic agriculture, production standards and the organic industry.
An undergraduate degree is required as is ten years of professional experience in a senior management capacity.
