General Description 

The Executive Director serves as the chief staff executive of the local Chapter in accordance with the Chapter Charter and By-Laws and governance of the National organization. The Executive Director has supervisory responsibility for the management of the affairs of the local Chapter including formulation of new policies in concert with the Board of Directors and/or Executive Board and is responsible for daily implementation of Chapter programs, events and initiatives, and oversight of financial planning and budgets. 

Qualifications

  • Proven administrative, fiscal management, and fundraising experience required;Excellent communication skills required; 
  • Team building and leadership experience required along with the ability to motivate others; 
  • Demonstrated interest or leadership in sustainable or environmentally responsible objectives is strongly desired; 
  • Strong ability to conceptualize, initiate, implement and execute programs.

    Relationships 

    Reports directly to Chapter Board of Directors. Will serve and communicate with Board, Executive Committee, and National and Chapter Committees as directed. Coordinates program implementation through Committee Chairs and volunteer leaders. Cultivates and maintains appropriate relationships with organizations in the build environment and sustainable community. 

    Responsibilities 

    1. Board Administration and Support: Advise, inform, and interface between Board, local/national Committees, and USGBC National. 

    2. Program, Product and Service Delivery: Oversees and is liaison with appropriate Chapter Committees the design (concept ideas) marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of Chapter programs, products and services. 

    3. Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management: Develops, recommends and manages yearly budget. Maintains any Chapter property. 

    4. Human Resource Management: Manages additional Chapter employees in accordance to USGBC National and State of Illinois guidelines. 

    5. Community and Public Relations: Works with Marketing Committee to insure that the Chapters mission, programs, products and services are presented in a strong and positive image. 

    6. Fundraising: Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funding/donor sources, submitting proposals and administering fundraising records and documentation.
