Description

Organizational Background:

ActionECO will educate Atlantans on sustainable practices through conversations, tours, and turning supporters into environmental advocates.

Organizations across all different sectors -- fashion, food, and transit, to name a few -- are working to reshape the sustainability practices in their industries, and ActionECO will connect individuals with these nonprofits, so each person can find their passion in the work. ActionECO will create a pipeline of people interested in supporting these nonprofits through volunteering, serving on the board, and/or providing financial support.

We believe that big change starts in our own homes, and we plan to serve as a model for the future we want to see. This will allow us all to introduce our friends and colleagues to environmental education and awareness while connecting them to something bigger than themselves.

Where we are:

ActionECO was founded by three friends who saw a need within their own networks to spread the word about sustainable practices. They are focusing on hiring an Executive Director first and plan to work on Strategic Planning with the new ED in partnership with Purpose Possible. The initial focus of the ED role will be to create the foundation for the organization -- identify partner nonprofits doing the on the ground work, finish the strategic plan, get the elevator pitch honed, and other foundational work. This is an incredible opportunity for someone passionate about environmental education and awareness to make a mark on not only the organization but Atlanta as a whole.

Job Description:

The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Executive Officer and reports to the Board of Directors. The ED is chiefly responsible for upholding the ActionECO mission, leveraging Board expertise, increasing awareness within the community, leading day-to-day operations, and ensuring the organization meets its financial objectives. The Executive Director will be the only paid position for the foreseeable future. The organization does not currently have offices, so remote work and flexibility of hours is available. However, once it is safe to do so, the organization will be doing special events that will require the ED to be in Atlanta.

The Executive Director has a broad range of leadership, management and oversight responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the organization has a long-range strategy and consistently works towards progress on that strategy.
  • Working with the Board in preparing the annual budget and ensuring the organization operates within budget guidelines. Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in sustainability across all sectors.
  • Developing effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components to measure outcomes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Leveraging Board’s expertise and connections to push the organization forward.
  • Establishing, managing, and stewarding strategic relationships with donors, sponsors, partner organizations, individuals, government agencies, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Serving as an external face of the organization with the ability to tell ActionECO’s story, and ensuring all activities and programs are properly publicized.
  • Developing an annual plan for fundraising from diverse funding sources.
  • Creating and executing strategies for earned income.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or as required with the evolution of the organization.

Required Education/Skills/Experience/Training:

  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role, managing a busy, fast‐paced organization. Experience with a smaller organization in its start-up phase is preferred.
  • Connected with, and previous support of, organizations and practices focused on sustainability, environmental education, and awareness.
  • Strong aptitude for verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship development. Ability to speak passionately and persuasively about sustainability and the need for change.
  • Ability to measure outcomes and communicate to multiple audiences.
  • Experience with fundraising and development, especially with special events.
  • Experience with managing relationships of varied constituents leveraging technology.
  • A collaborative self-starter.

Compensation Package:

  • $80,000-$90,000 Salary range, DOE
  • Stipend to cover medical benefits
  • Two weeks paid time off
