Our acclaimed programs include education and outreach programs that foster awareness, involvement, and a stewardship ethic; public policy and planning efforts that have a systemic, long-term impact on the river and its watershed's health; and on-the-ground projects that physically improve the river and watershed.
Friends of the Chicago River is seeking a detail oriented and enthusiastic individual with a desire to pursue a career in development to serve as Event Associate for our awardwinning environmental organization.
Position Overview:
This is a part-time (maximum 25 hours per week) temporary position beginning January 2012 through June 2012. The event associate will primarily assist the development department in the planning and execution of a major fundraising event, as well as work on logistical aspects of an anniversary celebration. The event associate will interact with other administrative staff members as well as numerous volunteers, program staff, donors, event committee members and vendors in helping to execute the event timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Director of Development and the Anniversary Celebration Manager with the execution of the event timelines, including taking a primary role in coordinating event logistics and individual pieces of the events with supervision.
- Working on and then at selected events on specific parts of the overall plan.
- Communicating effectively and creatively with event donors and sponsors through print and ecommunications, including necessary follow up and recognition fulfillment.
- Updating event website
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and some experience and knowledge and a strong interest to gain work experience in non-profit fundraising and marketing. Ability to prioritize and proactively work on projects, as well as strong verbal and written communications skills. Detail oriented and conscientious task and project management and solid organizational and time management skills. Advanced computer and Microsoft Office Suite proficiency a plus. Interest in and commitment to environmental issues.
Compensation: An hourly of $12, logged by the associate and paid bi-monthly. Flexible, negotiable schedule. Superb learning environment. Great work experience. Terrific team of colleagues.
