Description

Duties:


The position is responsible for environmental clearances for transportation
construction projects for CDOT Transportation Region 5. Duties include but are
not limited to implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for
major and intermediate transportation projects.

Completes and oversees
Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Environmental Assessments.
Manages large, complex feasibility studies and evaluates proposed transportation
construction projects to determine if there are significant environmental, social, or
economic impacts. Ensures CDOT is in compliance with NEPA and all other
applicable environmental laws and regulations.

Determines appropriate level of
environmental assessment and ensures all mitigation is incorporated into plans,
given budgetary and other constraints.

Identifies habitat assessments sites,
Threatened and Endangered (T&E) species on large projects and prepares
biological assessments.

Manages, schedules, and directs the work of consultants
hired to assist the Region in implementing environmental requirements of NEPA,
FHWA policies, and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
regarding environmental protections.

Performs other duties as assigned or
required.


Education and Experience Requirements:


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in
natural resource management, biology, wildlife biology, ecology, zoology, or a
closely related field AND three years of professional level experience in recent
NEPA compliance. Two years of the experience must include performing T&E
species surveys, habit assessments, clearances and review or preparation of
biological assessments.


Substitution:


Work experience with T & E environmental surveys, habitat assessments, and
clearances which provided the same kind, amount, and level of knowledge
acquired in the required education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
for the Bachelor's degree. A master's or doctorate degree from an accredited
college or university in the above-mentioned degrees may be substituted for the
Bachelor's degree and the one-year of the experience required.
