Position Overview:

Responsible for the coordination and enhancement of Pacific Natural Foods' environmental and sustainability programs. Lead and support efforts to improve environmental performance of corporate business practices. Maintain proper documentation and track progress related to environmental and sustainability performance goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Pacific Natural Foods' solid waste reduction, reuse and recycling program; manage recycling personnel; manage customer and vendor relationships; and oversee campus solid waste, recycling and composting infrastructure.
  • Oversee campus wastewater, storm water and non-contact cooling water programs; manage regulatory relationship with Clean Water Services and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality; and maintain compliance with industrial wastewater, storm water and non-contact cooling water permits.
  • Plan and implement targeted environmental projects; lead and support project teams; research best environmental management practices; track and report project results.
  • Lead campus-wide energy conservation efforts; coordinate Energy Trust incentives and federal and state tax credits.
  • Prepare environmental reports, permit applications, inventories and surveys, including: data acquisition, documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, review and approval, and submittals to regulatory agencies.
  • Track and maintain environmental Key Performance Indicators.
  • Provide recommendations to Operations and Maintenance Departments to improve environmental performance of campus facilities; implement targeted energy efficiency projects; and integrate green building design goals into construction and renovation projects.
  • Facilitate implementation of environmental/sustainability education and awareness programs for all employees, including regulatory required training.
  • Conduct routine plant self-audits and participate in corporate and regulatory agency audits.
  • Coordinate the resolution of environmental/sustainability issues within Pacific Natural Foods and among key stakeholders - corporate leadership, employees, suppliers, customers, community, etc.
  • Participate in environmental/sustainability-related associations and events, as appropriate.

Secondary Functions:

  • As an employee of a food manufacturing facility you are responsible for ensuring food safety and quality by reporting any concerns to the quality assurance department.
  • Direct outside contractors/vendors as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position provides supervision for Pacific Foods recycling personnel, in close cooperation with the Operations Department. This position also provides general direction and coordination among co-workers across multiple departments on targeted environmental projects, initiatives and task forces.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Broad understanding of environmental management and sustainability concepts, tools and frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of related regulations and their application to Pacific Foods' environment.
  • Previous experience leading organization-wide initiatives and facilitating groups with varying perspectives and levels of understanding.
  • Previous experience supervising staff, including hiring, evaluating performance, addressing performance problems, etc.
  • Previous experience with wastewater and storm water regulations, permitting and compliance.
  • Familiarity with green building design concepts.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making, data collection and problem analysis skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and a demonstrated ability to learn new software and systems quickly

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in environmental science, business administration, engineering or another relevant field.
  • 5 years experience in environmental protection and/or sustainability in the private, public or nonprofit sector.
  • Environmental regulatory experience a plus.
