The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) works in partnership with businesses, states and other key organizations throughout the country to reduce greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change by promoting greater use of clean energy and other cost-effective technologies and practices.

Position Overview: 

EPA's Climate Protection Partnerships Division (CPPD) in Washington, DC has an immediate opening for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to work as special assistant to the Director.  The Division houses many of EPA's voluntary climate partnership programs including, ENERGY STAR, Climate Leaders, and the Green Power Partnership. 

Responsibilities: 

The staff member will serve primarily as a specialist on analyzing the environmental and economic impact of these partnerships. He or she will be responsible for preparing the Division's Annual Report and developing quick turnaround analyses of the environmental, economic, and institutional impact of the Division's climate programs and potential new programs. 

He or she will also be responsible for coordinating Division responses for EPA and USG reporting exercises, performing outreach on the policy instrument of voluntary programs, providing support on program budget documents, and coordinating with other EPA offices and other Federal agencies on national policy development, budget development, the Climate Action Report, and other issues related to the mission of the Division.  He or she will also assist in other projects, as required.

Qualifications: 

  • The applicant should possess a degree (an advanced degree is preferred) in a related field including engineering, economics, or environmental science or policy.
  • The applicant should have a background in quantitative analysis, in addition to strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Previous experience with EPA or energy/climate policy is desirable. 

Compensation: GS -7 to GS-13  Starting:  $39,330/$107,854. EPA offers a competitive total rewards program with opportunities for growth and development.
