Description
Duties:
The New Hampshire Lakes Association (NHLA) seeks an Environmental Policy
Director. The responsibilities of this position include:
- conducting
research and gathering data on lake-related issues; - suggesting issues to the
board for which a policy or position needs to be identified; - suggesting the
best approach to address a particular problem or issue (whether through
legislation, or rules, or simply by working with the groups involved); -
working with lawmakers, state agency personnel and others on lake-related
issues, building grassroots support for issues through NHLA's cadre of 500+
legislative volunteers and coalitions among state agencies, other
environmental groups and lawmakers; - direct lobbying for NHLA's legislative
agenda; - and monitoring lake-related bills proposed by others.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in environmental science, public
policy or related field and two years' experience in a related field or
Master's degree in environmental science, public policy or related field;
Familiarity with conducting research on the Internet; computer word
processing, database and spreadsheet skills; effective interpersonal skills
(articulate; good listener; able to "read between the lines;" sensitive to
political nuances and implications; sense of humor); excellent writing
skills; cooperative, flexible, creative; self-motivated; attention to
detail; goal-oriented.
The Environmental Policy Director must work
cooperatively with the President, the Development Director, and with members
of the board and/or board committees as requested.
The NHLA is a statewide, nonprofit, member-supported
organization dedicated to the protection of New Hampshire's lakes. NHLA
offers salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
