Recology Landfill Organics in Dixon is currently looking for an Environmental Manager.
Responsibilities:
The Environmental Manager's essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Determines that required plans and permits are current and that Company is in compliance with Company environmental policy including management by objectives (MBOs).
- Prepares and submits necessary reports and information to local governments/agencies.
- Conducts compliance inspections of facilities and operations and brings issues to management as needed.
- Provides oral and written advice and direction on environmental permitting and regulatory compliance issues to operations team and General Managers.
- Works with Corporate Environment & Planning Department and with Group and General Managers on identification and resolution of permitting and compliance issues.
- Communicates verbally and in writing with regulators and accompanies them during inspections.
- Maintains facility records as needed to ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
- Samples water, soil, air, compost, and hazardous waste material, etc. for laboratory analysis using appropriate equipment and regulatory procedures.
- Trains employees in environmentally-related issues, including stormwater awareness, spill control and cleanup, etc.
- Assists with compliance and permitting activities, including the preparation of correspondence, reports, and applications, scheduling and attending meetings, setting up and maintaining files, researching contract service providers/consultants and other activities as directed.
- Prepares manifests for hazardous waste disposal shipments and submits Hazardous Waste Disposal Fees, Hazardous Waste Generator Fees, EPA ID Questionnaires, and Manifest Fee Returns.
- Evaluates incoming materials for acceptability consistent with Company waste acceptance guidelines.
- Represents the Company to regulatory agencies and the general public as needed.
- Answers inquiries by correspondence, telephone, and in person.
- Assists with design and presentation of environmental, permitting, and compliance related training.
- Assists in the development of testing protocols, such as odor control, waste characterization testing, etc. and participates in testing as required.
- Ensures that testing is conducted consistent with protocols.
- Travels to multiple locations for on-site visits.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have:
- Bachelor's degree in science or environmentally related major, or equivalent knowledge/experience with environmental regulations.
- 4+ years specific experience in compliance and/or permitting areas.
- Strong knowledge of environmental permitting and compliance related issues and regulations.
- Experience with solid and/or hazardous waste preferred.
- Knowledge of waste company procedures and policies preferred.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret environmental compliance related laws, regulations and policies and to develop and implement appropriate operating practices.
- Ability to communicate, interact, and effectively network with community and government officials, customers, and a diverse workforce.
- Ability to read, write and speak English well including excellent grammar and spelling.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Openness to relocation preferred.
