Position Overview:
Catamount Institute offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for seasonal summer employment with the potential to continue on staff in the fall. This position is for single overnight, day, and half-day camp supervision. Successful applicant will be comfortable working, teaching, and living with children and creating a respectful community. Act as a positive influence for the youth who are our future. Learn about and explore the mountains and mesas of Colorado. Improve your leadership, teaching, and technical skills through staff development trainings with other highly qualified and motivated staff.
Responsibilities:
- Being a mature and dependable positive role model for campers and other staff
- Providing punctual and organized leadership, creativity, direction and supervision during activities, trips, and around the camp
- Applying the Catamount mission statement as a goal for your work this summer
- Taking ownership for your personal attitude and behavior
- Working with other staff members to provide a quality experience for all members of the camp community
- Adjusting one's personal habits to the philosophy, policies and ideals of the camp including a comprehensive understanding of and respect for our time-off/alcohol and/or tobacco consumption policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (*Undergraduates may apply for the Heather Campbell Chaney Fellowship paid position)
- Strong commitment to youth and learning
- Teaching experience (especially at the elementary or middlelevels)
- Teaching license or certification given priority but NOT required
- Science (especially water quality)/Math/History background helpful but not required
- Energetic, dedicated & able to become involved in all aspects of the program
- Experience working with children desired
- Special skills (music, singing, storytelling, group dynamics, and games) helpful
Compensation: $320 to $400 per week based on experience
- Meals and tent lodging will be provided during the single overnights for day camp weeks
- Staff training, development, and project opportunities
- Opportunity to teach in an informal setting at a 1:13 ratio or better
- Influence the lives of children in Colorado's great outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, and games included
