Description
Environomics, Inc., is a small environmental policy consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. area.
While we use economics most frequently, many of our projects involve environmental engineering, law, risk analysis, finance, mathematical modeling, toxicology, survey research, program evaluation, institutional assessment, statistics, environmental science and other disciplines.
Position Overview:
We currently have an overload of work, and wish to associate ourselves with a consultant who will function as an independent contractor.
As a consultant you will work mostly from your own location (though you must be available for meetings roughly weekly in the Washington, D.C. area); using your own computer, software and telecommunications; setting your own hours; and with substantial need to exercise your own independent judgment about how to accomplish the work.
We need this consulting assistance ASAP. We estimate a need for roughly 20 hours per week, likely continuing through the summer of 2011.
Responsibilities:
The work will involve data acquisition, quantitative analysis, policy research and communicating the results of the work. Ultimately our outputs must be practical rather than academic - we help clients in government and industry make better decisions on the environmental policy issues they face.
Qualifications:
We seek a consultant with a minimum of a graduate degree in a relevant discipline (public policy, economics, environmental science, etc.) or 3 years of work experience related to environmental policy analysis. The individual must have very strong analytical skills and the interest/ability to apply analytical techniques across a variety of issues including air and water pollution, drinking water, climate change, solid and hazardous wastes, and occupational safety and health.
The applicant must be intellectually agile, able to assemble and make sense of information that may span multiple disciplines, and must write and speak very well (native English speakers only). Only individuals with exceptional intellectual capability should apply. Intelligence and sharp quantitative analytical skills can substitute for experience.
Compensation: The consultant will invoice us at an hourly rate that will be mutually agreed upon. This rate will reflect the consultant's experience and education. There will be no compensation or benefits in addition to this hourly rate.
Timing: Begin work as soon as possible. This notice was written February 25, 2011.
To Apply:
Please send a cover note, résumé and writing sample by e-mail. Please do not call.
