Borrego Solar Systems, Inc. is one of the fastest growing solar integrators in the country with regional offices in Lowell, MA; San Diego, CA; and Berkeley, CA. We have performed over 1,000 turnkey installations throughout the country resulting in dozens of megawatts of solar capacity. In 2009, Borrego Solar secured $30million in project financing and announced the launch of its fully funded integrated PPA.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an electrical engineer with a minimum of 5 years experience in electrical power looking to work in our Lowell, MA office. Our team is comprised of a diverse, talented, and hard-working group of individuals committed to growing this industry and to making a positive impact on the environment.

Responsibilities: 

Primary duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Work with a team of design engineers, project managers and engineering consultants to design, review and approve designs for commercial, government and utility solar PV projects ranging in size from 30kW to 2MW. Investigation and analysis of client's existing electrical services and Borrego's current electrical design method for PV systems.
  • Assessment of utility interconnection methods based on site analysis.
  • Work under the supervision of a registered Professional Engineer, assisting in the development of standard details, notes, and specifications, and reviewing design drawings prepared by in-house designers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, project engineers, code officials and third party consultants.
  • Must possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically prove design concepts.

Qualifications:

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum 5 years full-time experience
  • Registered EIT
  • Experience sizing and specifying 208 and 480 volt electrical services, transformers, emergency generators and transfer switches, metering equipment, cable, conduit, switchboards, panelboards, load centers, and overcurrent protection, as well as experience with performing load calculations, short-circuit, and coordination studies.
  • Experience drafting or reviewing engineering services contracts
  • Experience with cost estimation of designs
  • Experience coordinating with utilities such as Nstar, National Grid, PP&L, PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E
  • Experience with solar photovoltaics
  • Experience in medium voltage systems of 4160V to 26kV would also be helpful.
  • Strong understanding of all relevant codes including a demonstrated experience with utility networks across the country

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be open minded, creative, and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find creative solutions within the confines of the code
  • The successful candidate must be a high energy, resourceful and organized engineering professional.
  • The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects is a must.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills are a must
  • Computer proficiency - electrical design software and MS Excel experience
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel as well as manufacturing partners
  • Passionate about solar energy
