Hollins University and Emory & Henry College are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Energy Manager. This full-time position is supported by a three-year grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund for the 2 institutions. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership to the energy programs and utility systems of Hollins and Emory & Henry, and to help both institutions meet their commitments to develop sound, sustainable energy practices as signatories of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment.
Position Overview:
The Energy Manager will work with all constituencies to develop a working model for integration of energy management and sustainable practices into the operations of each institution. He/she will seek to achieve energy savings on both campuses, and make recommendations regarding reinvestment of these funds to support energy conservation, minimize the environmental impact of campus buildings and infrastructure, and develop written energy policies to guide campus sustainability efforts at both schools.
The Energy Manager will act as a liaison to facilities employees and other staff, faculty, administrators, and students regarding energy management and sustainable practices at Hollins and Emory & Henry. He/she will also promote the colleges energy management efforts and sustainable practices in the external community, including outreach to other organizations regarding their regional and statewide energy management efforts.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have a bachelors degree in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline (degree in mechanical engineering preferred); minimum of 2 years related experience in energy management, sustainability issues, and implementation of best practices in facility management and operations; theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of energy management and planning, design and construction principles, and energy and building codes; demonstrated career experience in mechanical, lighting, and HVAC systems, including the ability to read and understand blueprints, architectural plans, and operational/maintenance manuals; and excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
Applicants must be able to travel between the 2 institutions on a regular basis (Some money is available from the grant to reimburse travel expenses.). Candidates who are Certified Energy Managers (CEM) are desired, and experience working in an academic environment is preferred.
Position requires strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work simultaneously on multiple projects of varying size; excellent communication skills; strong analytical skills and knowledge of data collection and analysis; effective leadership, collaborative, and interpersonal skills; and commitment to diversity.
