Position Overview:
Opportunity for an Electrical Engineer experienced with software and hardware design to join our small but growing clean air green technology company using cutting edge science to reduce diesel exhaust emissions.
This is a hands-on role, responsible for taking new products from earliest concepts to fielded systems on a fast-paced development cycle, making an impact through hands-on electronics design and technical leadership in a friendly, collaborative environment, working with technology and industry experts.
Responsibilities:
1. Electronics and Electrical System Design:
- Design embedded microprocessor and peripheral circuits, analog transducer interfaces and signal conditioning, serial communications interfaces, high power DC and AC switching circuits, and power supplies.
- Develop electronic control system architectures including sensors, microprocessor controls, high power switching and power supplies.
- Design and validate firmware used to control DPF systems, working both independently and in collaboration with a software engineer.
- Create electrical system requirements specifications DPF products based on input from the sales force and customers.
- Develop detailed hardware and software technical specifications traceable to functional requirements.
- Enhance product reliability through design improvements and exhaustive testing of prototypes and production systems.
- Evaluate new product ideas and development initiatives as part of a gated product development process.
2. System Testing:
- Develop test plans to validate new and existing electronic circuits and electrical systems.
- Develop automated acceptance test equipment for company electronic products.
- Develop plans for environmental stress screening of manufactured products.
- Develop, document, and implement product field support procedures for electronic and software systems.
- Make recommendations for product and process changes as part of our continuous quality improvement program.
Qualifications:
- BSEE or higher degree, with 5+ years of experience in the design of embedded microprocessor, digital control and analog signal conditioning circuits for commercial or military products, preferably in the automotive, heavy duty truck or construction equipment industries.
- Proficient in the design and testing of embedded microcontroller, digital control, serial communications and analog signal conditioning circuits. High current switching or high voltage circuits experience is ideal.
- Experience in designing electronic products to perform reliably in severe environments.
- Current hands-on experience using schematic capture software, ideally OrCAD or Altium, to create and maintain engineering drawings.
- Proven experience developing electronics or electromechanical products under a formal quality management system, including engineering change, document control and product development procedures. ISO 9001 or related experience desirable.
- Successful track record in managing multiple complex technical projects simultaneously, within schedule and budget.
- Detail-oriented self-starter and team player with strong technical writing, communications, interpersonal, organizational, time management and team leadership skills.
- Enthusiasm and ability to work in a small team environment, interacting with all levels of management and staff.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.
- Familiarity with UL requirements for electrical equipment is desirable.
- Working knowledge of C language programming for embedded systems and VB programming for GUI is desirable.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. No relocation is available for this position.
