Description
Overview:
The mission of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) is to build
a world network for plant conservation and to support sustainable
development of the global environment. BGCI (US), the US office housed at
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, has undertaken a program to develop strategies to
raise public awareness in the United States of the urgent need for plant
conservation. Along with the Program Director, the Educational Resources
Coordinator will gather and provide resource materials, tools, and other
programs to assist US botanical gardens, educational institutions, and
environmental organizations in providing programs in plant conservation and
sustainability education within their communities.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
- Develop and implement content acquisition strategies
- Research, write, and edit profiles and case studies of botanical garden
programs nationwide - Design, format, post, and update information on the BGCI (US) website
- Identify, acquire, edit and establish links to relevant plant-conservation and
educational materials produced and used in botanic gardens
Secondary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in the coordination of professional development courses and other
programs - Maintain contacts and relationships with botanical garden staff and
professional associations - Play a role in developing BGCI membership
- Work with BGCI staff on worldwide initiatives as needed
- Perform related duties or special projects as needed
Qualifications:
- Proven success in writing and producing educational materials and
communicating technical information in a user-friendly, understandable fashion
for a diverse audience - Experience in web content management and design
- Working knowledge of HTML, digital photography, graphics, and related
software - Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Degree in education, botany, ecology, conservation biology and/or equivalent
experience - Ability to work independently and in a team environment
