~ The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership is advancing science, protecting ecosystems, and building connections to sustain the lower Columbia River estuary. ~

Located on the lower Columbia between the states of Oregon and Washington, we are one of 28 National Estuary Programs in the United States working to improve the health of a nationally significant estuary.

We are a 501c3 non-profit organization supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the states of Oregon and Washington and numerous other public and private entities. The Estuary Partnership includes all who live, work or recreate in the lower Columbia and estuary and are committed to its health and vitality.

Position Overview

The Temporary Educator is part of the team that implements components of the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan, six-year implementation strategies, and biennial workplans for education and volunteer programs.

  • Duration & Time Commitment: February 28, 2017 - June 15, 2017 but may be extended. Typical schedule will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Schedule may alter based on programming needs.
  • Supervisor: Education & Volunteer Programs Manager.
  • Location: Office in Portland, Oregon. Work throughout NW Oregon and SW Washington.

Responsibilities

  • This position delivers youth classroom and field trip programs.
  • Education programs provide outdoor learning experiences for K-12 students to build science knowledge and improve access to natural areas.
  • Programs involve hands-on education activities applying classroom lessons in the field and may include on-water activities, involvement in a service-learning projects, water quality or macroinvertebrate sampling, nature hikes, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree and/or experience in education, natural resource or watershed management, water quality, land use, marine sciences, biology, habitat conservation, or related field required.
  • Preferred experience: teaching and/or working with youth and demonstrated ability to work in classroom and field settings.
  • Preference will be given to candidates experienced in environmental education.

Salary Range: $18 - $20 per hour.
