Earthwatch is dedicated to using the web in innovative ways to achieve its mission. The ideal candidate will have an interest in helping to achieve Earthwatch's mission. 

Position Summary: 

The Education Media Specialist will join the Earthwatch Education team and work closely with the Marketing & Communications department, especially Web. This is a 2 year grant funded position with possibility of renewal. The Education Media Specialist will play a lead role in the development and coordination of video productions about global Earthwatch research projects. The goal is to produce a series of educational films geared towards key stakeholder audiences. The films will highlight the science and research findings of selected research projects and promote the Earthwatch educational engagement model. This person will also be able to think strategically towards replicating the Earthwatch film and educational productions in the future. 

Responsibilities: 

* Help define target audiences, format, length and approach for the films, in coordination with an out-of-house production company and director 
* Interface with other programmatic departments at Earthwatch and assist in the integration of visual communication objectives into the organization's general media initiatives 
* Act as the Earthwatch project manager and liaison with the film production crew. This task will involve coordinating frequently with the production team, director, education staff, film schools, and principle investigators. Will oversee the educational components of production, as well as insuring efficient time management and locations scheduling. Will be responsible for monthly reports on progress and budget management.
* Project management of film production deliverables. 
* Work with the Director of Education and Web Team to create collateral educational materials such as case studies, curricula, and interactive web environments that relate to the film locations and research projects. 
* Produce and edit short educational videos related film projects 
* Assist in the training of staff interns about film production and editing 
* Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications/Skills: 

* Masters of Education with a focus on media production or an MFA or in digital media (or equivalent professional experience) preferred 
* Experience in instructional video-based communication production and design and a strong knowledge of interactive web-based media. 
* Strong conceptual and methodological grasp of the intersection between video production, curriculum design and national k-12 education standards. 
* Video content configuration, navigation, interpretation and production. 
* Specific competencies might include knowledge of hybrid learning environments; planning and production of motion graphics for television and film; and research and development of cultural and environmental issues.
* Significant experience and/or a terminal degree in instructional media or other relevant areas is essential. 
* Commitment to capacity building around science and environmental concerns. 
* Abilities to prioritize multiple tasks, manage time, and work well with others are essential components of this position 
* Strong knowledge of Final Cut Studio and familiarity with Studio 8 
* An ability to work on a Macintosh platform is essential 
* Some travel will be required 

Salary range: $40,000-50,000 Good benefit package.
