Since the organization was founded, Living Lands & Waters has grown to be the only "industrial strength" river cleanup organization like it in the world.
Spending up to 9 months a year living and traveling on the barge, the Living Lands & Waters' crew hosts river cleanups, watershed conservation initiatives, workshops, tree plantings and other key conservation efforts.
Position Overview
Living Lands & Waters is seeking an energetic, physically fit crew member with great social skills, excellent writing skills, and a superior work ethic to coordinate the education program and assist in grant writing and reporting for this highly regarded environmental non-profit organization.
The Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of LL&W's education program aboard the barge and at outreach events, as well as assisting with grant writing and reporting as needed.
In addition, the education coordinator will assist in crew member duties at any LL&W events, including river cleanups, invasive species removal, and tree plantings. This is a full-time, permanent position with up to 9 months of travel per year and communal living on a barge.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and implementing education strategies and programs;
- Developing promotional materials and strategies for educational programming;
- Interacting and working with high school students and teachers;
- Maintaining inventory, condition, and organization of educational materials and supplies; representing LL&W at conferences, festivals and other public outreach events;
- Writing grants for LL&W projects;
- Ensuring timely grant reports;
- Loading and moving LL&W equipment (trucks, boats, barges) and supplies to and from different locations; and
- Representing LL&W in a positive light at all times.
Qualifications
- This position requires a valid driver's license;
- Up to 9 months of travel a year;
- Communal living on a barge; and
- A valid teaching credential and a bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or similar field are strongly recommended.
