The mission of Casey Trees is to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the nation's capital.
Position Overview:
Casey Trees is looking for an Education Coordinator to lead school campus plantings and other school activities and to manage our high school summer jobs program.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who loves working with people and is dedicated to urban and community forestry. Applicants should have experience working with schools or in an educational setting, excellent interpersonal communication skills and a genuine interest in the conservation mission of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead school campus plantings.
- Lead other school activities, including but not limited to on-campus tree walks, field trip tree walks and lessons based on the Casey Trees' "Restore Our Own Trees through Service" curriculum.
- Recruit, hire and manage high school students in the Summer Crew program. Develop and implement the day to day schedule for this summer job program. Create and implement an evaluation plan to measure the effectiveness of this program.
- Help manage volunteers at events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental education, arboriculture, horticulture, urban forestry, environmental studies or related field, and 2 or more years of professional experience required.
- Experience in an educational setting and/or teaching and conducting classes.
- Experience in working with youth.
- A passion for and commitment to urban and community forestry.
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
- Proficiency with MS Office including MS Word, Outlook and Excel is essential.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must be flexible to work projects when needed including nights and weekends.
Compensation: This is a full time year round, non-exempt position starting on or after April 12th, 2011 and includes benefits, paid holidays and a starting salary range of $40,000 - $45,000 (commensurate with experience).
