Position Overview:
EDF is currently hiring an Economic Analyst to serve in a key leadership and analysis role within EDF's Ocean Economics team in San Francisco. This position will ultimately work with 4 other team members to build successful, strategic programs that use creative economic models to benefit world fisheries.
The Economic Analyst will work in a challenging environment that includes complex financial assessment/auditing, business valuation and interactions with diverse business and NGO leaders. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a business analyst or resource economist eager to apply their knowledge of financial processes and business modeling to the improvement of the world's oceans.
Responsibilities:
The Economic Analyst will be responsible for the following duties and others as assigned:
- Serve as the lead analyst and model designer for the Ocean Economics team, working closely with the Managing Director and other team members
- Identify, design and conduct in-depth, project-specific analyses to support implementation of market-based incentives for fisheries management
- Work closely with fishers, government officials, academics, Ocean Economics staff and EDF regional staff to:
- Model workable scenarios that balance profit and conservation
- Increase efficiency in fishery operations while improving their conservation status
- Provide quantitative answers to economic and biological questions
- Explain complex financial and quantitative information in understandable terms to non-technical audiences
- Analyze and evaluate existing market-based conservation strategies and deliver reports and presentations based on findings
- Design and manage work of consultants to achieve goals
Qualifications:
- MBA in business or M.S. or Ph.D. in resource economics
- 5+ years work experience in roles with increasing responsibility
- Experience with various economic modeling and analysis procedures (e.g., business modeling, financial projections, efficiency audits, cost-benefit analyses, cost effectiveness analyses, resource equivalency analyses, contingent valuation, small business profit/loss, structured financing and resource pool profit/loss)
- Ability to model economic trade-offs, while identifying and implementing practical solutions to real-life problems
- Ability to explain complex analytical and quantitative concepts in understandable terms to non-technical audiences
- Ability to track performance and achieve excellent results from consultants
- Strong computational programming skills, knowledge of statistics, experience with spreadsheets and proficiency in mathematics
- Thorough understanding of business concepts and drivers
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Proven management experience
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
