The District serves over 2.6 million visitors annually within an eight-mile stretch of sandy coastline, 4,800 acres of coastal sand dunes and urban park settings, consisting of one of the most sensitive environmental coastal habitats in the United States. Must be able to operate and navigate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, ROVs or motorcycles.

Position Overview

The Department is recruiting for a District Superintendent for the Oceano Dunes District!

The duties and responsibilities will include the managerial responsibility for the overall operation of the District, including planning, organizing, directing, reviewing and controlling a multi-faceted and complex off highway vehicle operations within Oceano Dunes SVRA and more traditional park operations of Pismo State Beach, including the Pismo Dunes Natural Preserve and the Pismo Lake property.

  • Annual salary range: $97,464 to $133,380 DOQ

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role must possess:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, aptitude and demonstrated interest in park and recreation work, philosophy, and principles.
  • Prior experience with Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Management is desirable!
  • Five years of broad and extensive experience in the management or administration of a park, public recreational area, historical area, or a resource or recreation management organization.
  • Two years of this experience must include management of multiple programs through subordinate supervisors.
  • Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from a recognized four-year accredited college or university is needed as well.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Management experience is highly desirable!
