Position Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Environmental Stewardship, the Director of Travel Demand Management (TDM) is an integral member, providing strategic leadership, management oversight, promoting and supporting the efforts and engagement of the (TDM) programs and services at Columbia University.

Responsibilities

  • This position includes the responsibility for the successful development, management, marketing, and operation of the TDM programs to educate Columbia University faculty, researchers, administrators, staff, students, and construction workers about various transportation alternatives.
  • In addition, the Director has oversight for the direction of the program, including strategic and business planning, data management, tracking, and monitoring of TDM strategies; and developing and incorporating new or modified program elements.
  • This position works with a wide range of Columbia stakeholders to achieve the TDM program.
  • The Director develops, implements, and maintains the Columbia University TDM program, policies, and incentives.
  • She/he is expected to create a marketing program for TDM and develop metrics to evaluate effectiveness of TDM activities.

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation, Business or Public Administration, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Must have experience with travel demand modeling and forecasting activities for transportation planning studies, incorporating programs such as Guaranteed Ride Home Program; Bicycling Program; Park and Ride Shuttles; and Ridesharing and Vanpooling.
  • Project management experience required.

Skills, knowledge, and abilities must include:

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency with word processing, graphics programs, spreadsheet applications, and database management;
  • Strong organizational and program management skills;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Capacity to work independently, problem solve proactively, and work with limited supervision; and
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate teams toward common goal.
