Choate Rosemary Hall, an independent boarding school with 850 students and 150 faculty in Wallingford, CT seeks a Director for the Kohler Environmental Center (KEC).
The KEC is an innovative residential program of 14-20 students and 3 full-time faculty centered on an $18 M LEED platinum facility (classrooms, laboratory, greenhouse, and computing facilities) and 250+ acre outdoor laboratory and classroom consisting of diverse forest, streams, wetlands, hayfields, meadows and gardens.
A part of the larger 460+-acre Choate campus, the Center will open in 2012-13 and will: (i) provide a year-long curriculum of classes, research and interdisciplinary studies in the sciences, humanities, arts, environmental studies, and field research for resident students; (ii) serve as a broader avenue for ecological, environmental, and sustainability studies across the Choate curriculum; and (iii) comprise a nexus for research and education for collaborators from other secondary and university institutions and associated partners.
Position Overview:
The Director of the KEC is a full-time administrative faculty position reporting to the Dean of Faculty (on personnel matters) and Dean of Academic Affairs (on matters relating to the program and facility). The Director assumes overall responsibility for the Kohler Environmental Center including academic program, indoor and outdoor facilities, internal and external outreach, and coordination of research and educational activities.
