Description
The Director of Sustainability will be expected to function as a visionary leader and organizational strategist on internal and external sustainability practices necessary for David Evans Enterprises, Inc. (DEEI) to fulfill its core purpose: "To improve the quality of life while demonstrating stewardship of the built and natural environments." The director reports to the CEO.
Role:
- Oversee all DEEI initiatives related to sustainability
- Create strategy, programs, and tactics to integrate sustainability into internal and external business functions
- Foster a culture of sustainability among DEEI employees
- Lead activities of subsidiary sustainability coordinators
Responsibilities:
- In cooperation with the sustainability steering committee, create the strategic plan for firm-wide sustainability efforts, and develop annual sustainability plans
- Report to CEO on DEEI's progress with regard to integrating sustainable practices into its culture and work
- Continually monitor and introduce to DEEI industry practices with regard to sustainability to keep DEA in the forefront of sustainable planning and design
- Establish a sustainable planning and design core team to determine how to integrate sustainable practices into DEEI's client services across all business lines and disciplines
- Develop and enhance positive foundation, governmental, individual and other relationships to support sustainability efforts
- Act as internal and external spokesperson on the topic of sustainability and DEEI's efforts
- Work with the chief strategic officer to develop internal and external strategies to fulfill the core purpose
- The director will be a member of DEEI's sustainable steering committee
- Coordinate and lead monthly conference calls with sustainability coordinators
- Coordinate efforts of sustainability coordinators
- Manage content and maintenance of sustainability websites internally and externally
- Partner with corporate communications to drive internal awareness/education on sustainability issues
- Partner with corporate communications in the development of a periodic corporate social responsibility report
Education and experience:
- Undergraduate degree in related field; advanced degree desired
- More than 5 years of progressive experience and leadership in the area of sustainability or related initiatives
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple, complex projects in diverse areas
- Proven track record in developing, managing, and executing successful corporate programs and related goals and objectives
- Demonstrated experience managing complex collaborative processes
- Proven ability to develop and implement tactics to achieve strategic goals
