Description
Banyan Energy is a solar technology firm based in Berkeley, California. We specialize in design, production and module integration of a new type of concentrator optic.
Position Overview:
The Director of Manufacturing will play a critical role in the company's ongoing evolution, leading the product transition from prototyping through pilot manufacturing into full production.
Core responsibilities include developing processes for optics and module assembly, validating tolerances and yields at R&D and pilot scales, and qualifying contract manufacturers and suppliers. In addition, a key responsibility includes transferring processes to our customers, which will require skill in high-touch, manufacturing-oriented relationship management with some of the leading solar companies worldwide.
The Banyan module is designed to be integrated with similar processes as traditional crystalline silicon modules, albeit with the addition of an optical layer. Given that, process experience with at least some of the following is greatly preferred: injection molding, glass patterning, mechanical assembly, alignment / pick-and-place positioning, liquid deposition, solar cell tabbing and stringing, and module lamination.
The Director of Manufacturing will work closely with the Director of Engineering and CTO to creatively solve process problems and inform optics and module design-for-manufacturing. The person will also work with the CEO and Director of Business Development on the customer interface from a manufacturing and product commercialization standpoint.
Ultimately, we are looking for a person experienced at what it takes to bring an industrial-scale product to market, and yet agile enough for a front-end, innovative organization.
Qualifications:
- 5 yr+ experience developing scaled manufacturing processes
- 3 yr+ years experience in solar industry preferred
- Graduate degree in manufacturing-related field
