Description
Background:
A major organization with programs in many areas including
educational, recreational, and social service, that benefit both youth
and adults seeks a Director of Development.
Under the direction of the President, the Director of Development is
responsible for all of the Associations development throughout the
Newark service area, the coordination and management of capital
campaigns, an annual support campaign, and the development of an
endowment giving program. The individual is expected to ensure high
standards for quality community and donor service, visibility and
community awareness. All activities shall be conducted in a manner
consistent with established policies and procedures to enable the
Association to achieve its defined goals and objectives.
Duties:
The Director of Development shall:
- Prepare and manage the departmental budget
- Develop a volunteer Financial Development committee to review and
assist in the extension of services to service area communities - Develop and implement plans for the capital campaign
- Develop and target an on-going base of community individuals for
cultivation - Represent the Association and develop positive relations with
organizations and businesses. - Obtain necessary demographic profiles of each community in our
service area and identify resources that may be available to assist in
the activity development - Conduct a needs assessment for each community and identify
services being provided by other community agencies - Implement Strategic Plan financial goals that lead to expansion of
the Associations activities throughout the service area - Develop with the Marketing Director a public relations, promotion
and marketing program - Prepare copy for Association newsletters and other written
materials for fundraising and design, implement and manage the
Annual Support campaign - Identify and recruit volunteers to work on the Annual Support
Campaign - Maintain and prepare on required statistical reports necessary for
internal (staff) and external (Board of Directors and general public)
reporting - Ensure proper maintenance and of donor records including
necessary billing - Coordinate all government and foundation grants
- Supervise Marketing and Public Relations staff activities
- Serves as point of contact with government, foundation and
corporate officers - Manage and follow through on all elements of a donor recognition
program - Prepare a master plan for the development of an endowment
giving program - Conduct personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent
with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to
the Association - Perform such other job related duties as may be periodically
assigned by the Senior Vice President for Operations or the President - Cooperate, work effectively and congenially with all staff members,
volunteers and members of the Association
Qualifications:
The individual shall posses the minimum of a baccalaureate degree
from an accredited college or university in a related field. A minimum of
ten years of proven successful experience in fundraising in a public
service field is required. The individual must have the ability to
supervise and/or direct activities in the area of community and financial
development. The ability to cultivate community leaders and motivate
volunteers and staff is essential. The individual must also posses an
acceptable level of computer literacy and familiarity with a fundraising
software. Good human relations skill are a must as is the ability to
work in a multi cultural, multi ethnic urban environment.
It will be necessary to develop and maintain harmonious relationships
with members, staff and the general public. The human relations
aspect of this position is considered critical.
