ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

SVCF’s work environment is based on a holistic wellness approach and therefore, has embraced a hybrid remote/office work environment. All SVCF team members must be based and hold residency in California and must be able to regularly attend team and staff meetings, trainings and other gathering in Mountain View when required.  This position will be required to be in the office twice a week.

This is a full time, exempt position based in Mountain View, California.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Director, Fundraising is responsible for developing and executing Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s cross-organizational fundraising activities. The Director will also be responsible for promoting and advancing the Department’s goals more broadly while collaborating with other members of the development team and other groups in the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the Vice President, Development and in coordination with foundation leadership, develop outreach strategies, engagement models and supporting materials for SVCF’s fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns.
  • Lead prospect research efforts to identify capacity, affinity and likelihood to support SVCF initiatives and campaigns.
  • Lead cross-departmental working groups to improve internal collaboration and external outreach efforts and messaging.
  • Create prospect briefs and internal memos to support executive leadership in major donor cultivation.
  • In collaboration with program leads in the Community Action, Policy, and Strategy (CAPS) division and foundation executive leadership, develop and lead stewardship activities for non-fundholders who donate to SVCF initiatives.
  • Lead the development and writing of grant proposals for SVCF initiatives and campaigns; coordinate with internal departments and program leads to source information and compile, finalize and submit grant proposals.
  • Oversee the management, tracking and reporting on grants processes to support SVCF initiatives including maintaining a funding calendar/pipeline of activities and deadlines.
  • In partnership with the Gifts and Finance teams, track funds raised toward campaign goals; manage the internal reporting on commitments and funds raised for all initiatives and campaigns.
  • Engage with prospective donors and funders in person, by email, and through engagement events and webinars.
  • Maintain accurate records on communications and contact reports in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Manage and supervise other members of the Development team while overseeing and moving projects and initiatives forward for the entire department.
  • Serve as a representative for the Foundation externally; support efforts to strengthen SVCF’s relationship throughout Silicon Valley and the broader Bay Area.
  • Attend, participate and when appropriate, present at industry conferences. Attend events to increase visibility of SVCF.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLSETS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Professional and personal alignment with Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s mission and values.
  • Experience in contributing to the growth of an organization by supporting new partnerships or business development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in philanthropy.
  • Knowledge of the range of philanthropic vehicles available to donors, including the tax and compliance requirements associated with each, as well as gifting and grantmaking.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining donor relationships resulting in significant support for an organization.
  • Experience working on major gift campaigns and/or experience working with high-net-worth donors.
  • Experience writing successful grant proposals and all required grant reports.
  • Excellent writing, editing, analytical and oral communication skills including the ability to collect, review, synthesize and present information and findings.
  • An understanding of the Bay Area philanthropic community and/or charitable organizations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make strategic and tactical decisions in a complex and high-paced/high-output environment.
  • Ability to manage and meet internal and external deadlines for projects, while balancing competing priorities.
  • Experience managing, developing and coaching team members.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience drafting and presenting information and proposals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with diverse people and in diverse groups.
  • Open to learning new frameworks and thinking critically about improving existing methods or approaches.
  • Fluency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Strong software skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly shifting and evolving workplace.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
