Position Overview
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) oversees all aspects of financial strategy and administrative and operations functions.
This position is responsible in equal measure for the financial management of the organization and smooth and strong internal operations leadership. They will manage the organization's Finance & Operations Team including a Bookkeeper, HR/Administrative Manager, and Data Services Manager.
The DFO is responsible for serving as a strategic resource to the Leadership Team to ensure that sound fiscal policies and appropriate organizational infrastructure are in place to support the strategic goals of the organization.
CLCV and CLCVEF work to integrate our values for equity, inclusion, and diversity into internal practice and external programs. The DFO plays a central leadership role in these efforts.
The DFO is responsible for achieving the following key results:
- Develop and oversee all aspects of the organizational budget, including monthly internal finance reporting and accountability process and prepare financial updates for the board of directors on a quarterly basis.
- Lead and manage the operations, facilities, IT, and human resources staff and vendors. This includes providing leadership to the administrative team and managing the effective use of vendors to support efficient operations for all staff.
- Lead CLCV team through the annual financial audit and earn a clean opinion.
Responsibilities
Financial Management, Budgeting and Reporting:
- Develop and lead financial strategy, management, and resource allocation to support a sustainable business model.
- Support and advise the CEO in financial decision making.
- Support program development goals with relevant financial budgets, reporting metrics, and analysis.
- Oversee the development of short and long-term financial strategy, including the design of budgets, analyses, and forecasts, in order to inform and drive decisions by the Leadership Team.
- Manage and oversee the management of financial transactions and ensure all financial data is accurate and complies with the integrity of the audit process.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, internal controls, and efficient financial procedures.
- Supervise Bookkeeper and manage work of external bookkeeping consultants.
- Oversee grant management and the timely release of restriction processes.
- Serve as Treasurer on PAC accounts and work with outside PAC administrators.
- Serve as primary liaison with the Audit Committee.
Operations:
- Human Resources: Supervise HR/Administrative Manager and oversee all human resources functions to create and support fair, equitable practices; a healthy, inclusive organizational culture; and a staff team that reflects the vibrant diversity of the state of California including:
- Implementing and maintaining human resources best practices, policies, and procedures to cultivate and support a culture of high performance.
- Payroll and benefit plan administration.
- Recruitment, hiring, and compensation plans.
- Professional training and development and new hire orientation.
- Database: Supervise Data Services Manager, and facilitate collaboration of membership data management across departments including:
- Implementing and maintaining database management best practices, policies and procedures to support efficient delivery of accurate data.
- Supervising database integration of call center CRM software implementation project-in-process.
- Ensuring compliance with credit card processing industry security standards.
- Information Technology: Manage external vendors to ensure secure and effective IT infrastructure and delivery of IT services across the organization.
- Administrative: Oversee risk management and legal activities including letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements.
Leadership and CEO Support:
- Support the CEO in the execution of strategic initiatives and special projects.
- Work with the CEO to provide staff support and guidance to the Board of Directors.
- Through policies, establishment of standards, and by example, foster an environment of high performance, learning, teamwork, and cooperation throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong finance and operational experience with 10+ years in a senior management role, with at least 5 years of experience in a nonprofit setting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing human resources, information technology, contract administration, and legal services.
- Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and implementing strategic plans.
- Knowledge and experience diversifying an organization including implementation of proactive recruitment strategies, hiring protocols, and staff education and learning on cultural competencies and skills for sustaining inclusive organizational culture.
- Skill and passion for developing strong systems and business processes that improve performance and organizational impact.
- Knowledge of 501(c)3, and 501(c)4 organizations
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills; detail oriented.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Outstanding time management skills, with proven ability to multi-task and change priorities in an effective and timely manner.
- Skills and experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for CLCV's mission and our environmental justice values.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Compensation: Salary is DOE.
