Position Overview

In this role, the Director, Environmental Sustainability will lead, plan, develop and implement environmental sustainability programs for Cott Corporation and its business units. The individual should excel in working collaboratively across an organization, deliver superior service and work product to key stakeholders, and be able to enhance programmatic performance through process improvements, change management, and data-driven business decisions. This position will include working with field operations, implementing KPI reporting, innovating and collaborating across the company's business and functional areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic plan identifying key gaps and opportunities and align with sustainability goals and objectives.
  • Develop key performance metrics and indicators to monitor and assess progress towards achieving company goals.
  • Review and improve the accurate collection and reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual information.
  • Provide an overview of all Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance programs to the senior management of the Cott Corporation.
  • Collaborate with facilities, engineering, projects, sourcing, finance, and planning teams to collectively meet program goals.
  • Ensure programs developed comply with all contracts, laws, rules, and regulations governing program activities at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Monitor trends and recommend new, digitally focused approaches to drive and differentiate ESG-related communication efforts, in collaboration with Cott Corporate Communications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of carbon emissions and related disclosures (energy, fuel, mileage, emissions, etc.)
  • Possess strong research and analytical skills, as well as writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Work collaboratively across functions; strong interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to build relationships with the business and our clients is required.
  • Manage and review environmental documents.
  • Consult on policy and rationale where appropriate, to provide guidance on legislative and regulatory policies for the Cott business units; in shaping the company's advocacy initiatives.
  • Be comfortable in a nimble team environment in order to maximize available resources.
  • Provide leadership and strategy.
  • Define the scope of a project and its benchmarks.
  • Track projects schedules, costs and deliverable items.
  • Oversee and evaluate contractor performance.
  • Partner with the Cott business units to integrate environmental sustainability and circularity into product and packaging development and material selection.
  • Help develop and refine environmental strategy, priorities and measurements.
  • Communicate with impact and help build the business case for environmental initiatives with internal and external parties.

Qualifications

  • Required: B.S. / B. A. or M.S. in environmental science, or similar discipline 3-5 years Water Resource Development
  • Six+ (6+) years or progressive responsibility and experience in the field of environmental sustainability. Must have experience in achieving carbon neutral certification at the company and product level. Must have experience in sustainability reporting and working with ESG rating agencies such as Sustainalytics, ISS and CDP
  • Experience managing complex projects globally, from planning through execution.
  • Strong leader who can who can help develop and drive sustainability strategies throughout a complex, multi-faceted organization.
  • Ability to problem solve and deliver results.
  • Ability to development strong internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire performance of others, and coach/develop staff.
  • Strong business acumen, judgement, instincts, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to think strategically and contextually, and to anticipate the needs and expectations of executive leaders.
  • Proven ability to manage, foster and support a team-oriented environment
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications -- advanced proficiency in Excel is required.
