The Local Growers Guild creates a local foods system that provides quality food to communities through direct markets and retailers; preserves the viability of family farms; improves the quality of life for growers; makes food issues visible; and promotes practices that preserve and protect the Earth.

Position Overview:

The Director oversees all activities of the Local Growers Guild, working closely with the Assistant Director, the LGG Board of Directors, and the Bloomington Winter Farmers Market Advisory Committee. The right candidate for this job is passionate and knowledgeable about the importance and value of improving the local food economy. The Director often serves as the public face of LGG.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Maintains all budgeting and bookkeeping including payroll, income and expenses, and quarterly taxes
  • Coordinates all aspects of the Bloomington Winter Farmers Market, including vendor application and communication, marketing, and on-site Market Master December through March
  • Supports Board of Directors with fundraising and cooperative development
  • Organizes annual membership drive & maintains membership/volunteer databases
  • Supports the Assistant Director with special events and marketing initiatives
  • Develops membership, both quantitatively and by involvement, and maintains member databases
  • Recruits, communicates, and retains LGG volunteers
  • Coordinates with collaborative organizations such as Purdue Extension, City of Bloomington, Bloomington Food Policy Council, Indiana University, etc. on joint ventures such as farm tours, Farm to Fork events, and community and program development projects
  • Promotes the Guild by speaking on local food panels, conducting interviews for radio and newspaper, and presenting at community events with the Assistant Director.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects required
  • Outstanding managerial and leadership skills required
  • Experience and knowledge in fundraising and fund development
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications, InDesign and HTML preferred
  • Experience bookkeeping with Intuit Quickbooks preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • Enthusiasm for local food required

Schedule: 20-30 hours per week depend upon season and/or projects. Schedule is flexible; contingent upon meetings, evening and weekend obligations.
