Position Overview

This position is an opportunity to work on BIG planet-level issues in a small, but influential organization. You will gain fundraising and grant writing skills, which are essential for a career in nonprofits. You will also have a significant amount of responsibility, and gain valuable experience that will serve your resume well!

We are looking for a commitment that is part to full-time, 10-20 hours a week. Hours are flexible but you'll need to be willing to work on weekends if necessary. And, we ask that you stay with us for at least 3 months.

Most work can be done from home. Though you'll need to be able to occasionally come to our office, located within walking distance to Clarendon Metro. 

Responsibilities 

The Development Intern will work with the Our Task team to assist in fundraising and grant writing efforts. This work is needed for general funding, but also for specific projects, such as the Global 2100 Project.


Specific responsibilities include:
 

  • Finding new prospective individual and corporate donors.
  • Finding grant prospects and writing grant proposals.
  • Building and promoting our Crowdrise fundraiser for the Global 2100 Project.
  • Working with our Executive Director to understand the budget and fundraising goals.
  • Helping maintain contact and donor history databases.
  • Maintaining and improving the donation page on our website.
  • Responding to requests for information via phone and e-mail.
  • Planning fundraising events.
  • Conducting data entry and analysis using our contact and communications database tool (NationBuilder). 

Qualifications  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Current students working towards a Bachelor's Degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous fundraising experience, comfortable on the telephone and speaking to new contacts (but you will NOT be cold calling).
  • Previous grant writing experience, or eagerness to learn.
  • Experience in grassroots social change initiatives desired, but not required. 
  • Strong written/verbal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Applications.
  • Working knowledge of national and global sustainability issues and a personal commitment to living sustainably.
  • Highly self-directed individual who can work independently with minimal direction.


Compensation: 
This is an unpaid position. We can work with you and your university to arrange for academic credit for your work with Our Task. The position can be altered to fit your institution's requirements for credit.
