Description
Background:
The University of Puget Sound is seeking a tenure-track professor in Decision-Making and Environmental
Policy.
We will hire at either the Assistant or Associate level.
We will consider candidates from many different academic
disciplines. The first four years of the position are funded by the Luce
Foundation Environmental Initiative Program. This program also provides
funds for the University of Puget Sound's effort to develop an environmental
studies curriculum in which decision-making and policy considerations will
infuse most courses and expand into the co-curriculum, residential learning
environments, and partnerships with community organizations. In addition to
providing the initial salary for the faculty position, the Luce grant
provides funds to achieve the following goals:
(a) build bridges to
community stakeholder groups so that students and faculty can better engage
regional environmental issues in their classes, research, and internships;
(b) expand the curriculum to explore the difficulties of making culturally
charged and technically complex decisions in a democratic society; and
(c)
build on efforts to link the residential lives of students with their
intellectual development through residence-based or co-curricular programs.
Duties:
We expect that the candidate as part of the Luce Initiative will participate
in teaching and team-teaching courses on decision-making and environmental
policy and coordinate and host two regional conferences on decision-making
and environmental policy. The candidate also has the opportunity to play an
important role shaping our growing Environmental Studies program by
assisting the development of an environmental studies seminar series,
co-curricular activities, and residential programs.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the Ph.D. (ABD considered) and/or extensive appropriate
professional experience, expertise in decision-making in environmental
policy, teaching experience, and experience working across institutional
settings.
