Presidio Graduate School ("Presidio"), among the world's first and leading sustainability graduate institutions, is seeking a Dean of the Faculty (the "Dean").

Founded in 2003, Presidio educates and inspires a new generation of skilled, visionary and enterprising leaders to transform business and public policy and create a more just, prosperous and sustainable world. Through innovative MBA, MPA, Dual Degree and Executive Certificate programs in Sustainable Management, Presidio activates students and professionals across a range of disciplines, industries and sectors to bridge the gap between commerce and the common good.

We are a vibrant community with 250 students currently enrolled and more than 500 highly engaged alumni. Our community of world-class faculty is composed of approximately 25 full- and part-time scholar-practitioners, with subject matter expertise across the full spectrum of sustainable management topics. Presidio was ranked among the top 5 sustainable MBA programs in the nation by Fast Company magazine.

Position Overview:

The Dean serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the school, reporting to the President and CEO. The Dean provides leadership for Presidio's academic division and strategy, including the development and enhancement of high quality academic programs through ongoing program review and assessment, the raising of academic standards, and the expansion of research and other scholarly activities.

The Dean also insures that the curriculum appropriately reflects Presidio's mission and is as current as possible in terms of disciplines, alignment of learning outcomes and pedagogy, and the relevance and currency of the educational experience within all of Presidio's programs.

Finally, the Dean plays a key development and outreach role to support Presidio's continued mission impact, educational success, and overall market position and prestige.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of Presidio's senior management team and provide academic and executive leadership and supervision for all academic programs.
  • Provide leadership to the faculty for the academic curriculum, and manage the processes through which teaching and learning are conducted and administered.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of excellence in academic programs consistent with Presidio's strategic objectives.
  • Recruit, develop, assess, and retain highly qualified and motivated faculty and academic support staff in all required academic and professional disciplines.
  • Promote excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and other key academic activities
  • Set high standards for assessing the quality of programs, teaching, and student learning.
  • Manage the assignments and output of the core faculty and chairs, including the Peer Review process.
  • Review all evaluations and make final decision, in close consultation with President and CEO, regarding the reappointment, promotion, or dismissal of faculty.
  • Manage the academic side of the self-study and accreditation process, set overall goals for the academic programs and ensure compliance with all accreditation standards.
  • Develop, coordinate and manage the annual budget for all academic programs and services.
  • Ensure that the data necessary for academic planning and decision-making are available as needed.
  • Work closely with the President and CEO in:
    o Policy making
    o Developing strong relationship with the Board of Directors
    o Being a prime spokesperson for Presidio to all external and community stakeholders
    o Overseeing faculty recruitment, retention, support and evaluation, setting
    o Establishing and managing goals for all faculty committees
    o Creating the annual academic budget
    o Leading efforts to identify, apply for and secure research funds from foundations, government agencies, corporations and individuals
    o Supporting institutional advancement and overall fundraising activities
  • Take leadership responsibility for other projects as assigned by the President and CEO.

Qualifications:

  • An experienced educator with a PhD or equivalent in a management discipline.
  • An individual with a record of outstanding teaching, research, and knowledge of and commitment to both business and public administration disciplines.
  • A highly competent academic administrator well-versed in managing learning technology, scholarly production, accreditation processes, and successful solicitation of research funding.
  • A well-respected leader who is able to attract and motivate great teachers, researchers, and academic partners.
  • An effective communicator with the proven ability to listen, influence, persuade, translate, negotiate, and resolve conflict; excellent written word, one-to-one verbal communication, and team-building skills.
  • A talented leader and collaborator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to generate trust and build alliances with co-workers.
  • An innovator in sustainability with a global perspective, cultural awareness and experience in enterprise, networking and relationship management.
