We specialize in wind and solar photovoltaic with presence in other segments of the renewable energy market: biogas, biomass, hydro, marine energy, and storage solutions. 

Position Overview

The Cost Accountant, Asset Origination position is responsible for tracking and analyzing the financial status of the assigned development and construction projects. These activities cover the various phases from the initial project setup in SAP to asset origination to commercial operation date.

This position is the focal point and custodian of all current and historical related information for each assigned project, including but not limited to:

  • Review and ensure proper accounting of the membership interest purchase agreement, if applicable.
  • Review of all significant procurement contracts ensuring purchase orders are properly coded in SAP in accordance with the terms of the contracts, retention is properly handled with each pay application, etc.
  • Upload various stages of budgets into SAP, ensuring a thorough understanding is obtained, and perform budget revisions as necessary.
  • Reconciliation of intercompany transactions affecting the assigned project.
  • Perform monthly accrual journal entries and ensure payables are properly stated for each period ended.

This position requires working closely with personnel from multiple groups within the Company, including: Regional Offices, Project Program Managers, Construction Group, Financial Planning, Treasury, Consolidation, Project Financing and Asset Management Groups.

Furthermore, this individual will be working with the Accounting Manager, Asset Origination to ensure the timely completion of all monthly tasks as it relates to the general ledger and the completion of the monthly/quarterly financial reporting. 

Work time is primarily spent in the office environment, utilizing computers as well as other office equipment. Occasional travel to project site may be required (less than 10%). 

Responsibilities

  • For assigned projects, reconcile job cost reports to the general ledger on a monthly basis and ensure accuracy.
  • Actively participate in project review meetings.
  • Maintain active consistent communication with the developer and/or project program manager for all assigned projects.
  • Record and reconcile general accruals, as well as project completion accruals and reversals as costs are incurred.
  • Prepare cash receipt entries, adjusting and reclassification journal entries, etc. as necessary.
  • Run A/P and A/R aging reports periodically and research aged items as needed for assigned projects.
  • Provide accounting support researching data, as requested.
  • Exhibit the skills to apply comprehensive accounting knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in both accounting standards applicable to the Company and IAS as well as US GAAP.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance required.
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive accounting experience required. Experience in construction or project accounting a plus.
  • Extensive experience with an integrated accounting software package along with extensive knowledge of Excel spreadsheet software, including pivot tables.
  • Experience with Microsoft software programs including but not limited to Word and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate a highly motivated self-starter, friendly personality and team player attitude that can become an asset to the organization.
  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks from start to finish, research, analyze and problem-solve.
  • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Standards required. Knowledge of International Accounting Standards a plus.
  • Experience with SAP and BI/BW preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
