Controller

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, a highly visible, not- for- profit organization located in San Francisco is currently seeking a Controller to lead our Accounting and Finance department.

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the CFO/COO, the Controller is responsible for oversight and facilitation of the Company's accounting function. The Controller will supervise directly or through delegation the functions of general accounting (accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, financial reports), cash management, both external and internal financial reporting, grant and contract accounting, special projects and developing accounting controls. Additionally, s/he will provide leadership and motivation to the accounting team to work towards the achievement of the company's objectives while ensuring compliance with all internal and external reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct or manage all accounting activities for earned income, project and development operations;
• Possess a strong knowledge of GAAP;
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports;
• Establish and implement appropriate policies and procedures to ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and records are properly maintained;
• Ensure financial systems are appropriate for tasks performed and are developed, tested, implemented and maintained appropriately;
• Strong focus on continuous process improvements and efficiencies of business processes and application of accounting policies and procedures;
• Interact with sales, operations and legal departments to analyze significant revenue transactions to determine proper accounting;
• Manage all aspects of local, state and federal compliance;
• Able to interpret accounting reports to management and board;
• Prepared to assume responsibility for the financial function of the Parks Conservancy in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years accounting experience in a hands-on operating environment;
• BA/ BS in Business Administration , Accounting or Finance required, MBA or CPA a plus;
• Excellent leadership skills with sound business judgment;
• Experience in governmental or fund accounting;
• Commitment to high standards, integrity and ethics;
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to explain and resolve issues in a timely manner;
• Proven organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail;
• Strong GAAP and internal controls experience;
• Versatile, flexible and able to manage in a fast-paced environment;
• Excellent skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook);
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, develop and manage staff;
• Self-motivated team player who works well independently and with others with a high degree of honesty and integrity.
