The Global Green USA Legacy Program in Washington DC is offering a Communications and Development internship for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in communications, media, international security, arms control, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.

Duties:
- Assist with media analyses and outreach for and execution of Congressional briefings and events.
- Develop press relations and research appropriate media outlets.
- Update media database.
- Attend legislative strategy meetings.
- Assist in the drafting of Global Green Legacy press releases and Op-Eds.
- Explore creative ways to engage and expand Global Green's network.
- Write/edit articles for newsletters and draft letters to potential funders.
- Research funding sources- foundations and potential corporate associates.
- Keep Global Green's website up-to-date with the latest news and briefing information.
- Develop targeted fundraising appeals and assemble information for potential donors.
- Assist with organizational needs and attend Legacy Program's events in Washington D.C., including the annual Legacy Forum and regular CTR Working Group events
- Attend events organized by other NGOs and think tanks in Washington DC representing Global Green USA.
- Work closely with Communications departments in our headquarters office in Santa Monica, CA and other affiliates in Geneva, Moscow, Rome and Paris.
- Assist Legacy Program Associate and Program Director in planning and implementation of projects to promote the safe and environmentally sound destruction of weapons stockpiles globally.
- Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise.
Eligibility:
- Must be at least a college junior in good standing or a graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, politics, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US institution.
- Must have an interest in international security policy, arms control, nonproliferation, and/or related environmental issues.
- Strong writing and research skills.
- Self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent computer skills or ability to quickly learn various computer programs including: Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook and Word), Dreamweaver and database programs.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum 2 months
- Part time: 20+ hours/week; Full time: 35+ hours/week
Hours to be determined with intern and academic institution.
Compensation:
Academic credit is available. Please work out academic credit details with your academic institution.
Location: Our office is located in the Johns Hopkins University's Bernstein Office Building, 1717 Massachusetts Ave NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036 (Dupont Circle metro stop)
