Media Impact empowers communities worldwide to inspire enduring change through creative storytelling. Media Impact is a leader in Entertainment-Education and social change communications. For 27 years, we have worked with local partners to produce programs that address the most pressing social and environmental issues. Using our unique My Community methodology, we engage and empower audiences around the world to improve their own lives.
Working with local partners, we have produced more than 3,000 episodes of 75 TV and radio serial dramas. Together, these programs have reached more than 1 billion people in 36 countries.
Position Overview:
Working in close collaboration with the Partnerships and Communications Director, the Communications Manager is responsible for driving and managing the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy for PCI-Media Impact (Media Impact). This strategy should include both traditional and new multi-media platforms.
Additionally, s/he will work closely with the program and partnership teams to prepare fundraising materials and maintain the organization's online fundraising platforms. The Communications Manager will build and manage relationships with partners and diverse stakeholders, and lead efforts to develop a long-lasting and sustainable communication programs supporting the mission and vision of Media Impact.

Travel Required: Up to 15%
Responsibilities:
Strategic Design and Implementation of Media Impact Communications Strategy (45%):
- Work collaboratively across departments to identify the organization's target audiences. Manage the production and implementation of a communications strategy that uses appropriate messages to target each audience;
- Lead the drafting, editing, and management of creative and impactful written work and digital products targeted at multiple audiences and across multiple platforms;
- Represent Media Impact at events and conferences, when appropriate preparing and presenting about the organization's work and programs;
- Collaborate with Media Impact staff to develop, design and produce all printed materials and designed fundraising tools, including the organization's biannual printed newsletter;
- Serve as the lead media contact for the organization; and
- Support the organization and execution of conferences and high-level events, as appropriate.
Website and Social Media Development (25%):
- Create and implement the strategic plan for engaging stakeholders on various social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and YouTube;
- Drive the design of the organization's website and oversee the maintenance of both the Spanish and English language websites once they are complete;
- Produce a quarterly partner-focused digital newsletter;
- Manage the production and sharing of content on the organization's media distribution platform; and
- Collaborate with program partners to drive the organization's network function, including creation of a rebroadcast platform, listserv, and other tasks as appropriate.
Program Development and Fundraising (15%):
- Research and suggest program funding opportunities;
- Develop submissions for award applications;
- Collaborate with other staff to produce and submit applications for program financing; and
- Maintain and update Media Impact's online fundraising platforms, including both Global Giving and Facebook Causes.
Management (15%)
- Oversee the department's intern program, providing regular individualized supervision and feedback to the interns and volunteers;
- Manage the Media Impact Communications Officer;
- Support the growth of the Communications Department; and
- Serve as the staff liaison to the Media Impact Young Professionals Committee.
Additional tasks may be assigned from time to time. Percentages of time dedicated to each area of responsibility are provided as a general guide and may vary.
Qualifications:
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience working in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing and/or Entertainment-Education and Social Marketing.
- Experience developing and successfully implementing a complex communications strategy, particularly for a growing non-profit organization.
- Knowledge of the field of Communications for Development, especially understanding of Entertainment-Education programs.
- Exceptional writing skills and demonstrated ability in writing for multiple formats (print, digital, social media, etc.).
- Demonstrated success in website maintenance.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with external partners and vendors.
- Ability to thrive in team environments, with a strong understanding of diversity and other cultures.
- Strong understanding of issues impacting developing countries, particularly around biodiversity conservation, climate change, natural resource management, sustainable livelihoods, water and sanitation, and sustainable development.
- Proven experience successfully managing multi-tiered communications plans.
- Willingness to directly support fundraising activities, including proposal writing and reporting.
Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Experience in Entertainment-Education or Communications for Development programs.
- Experience working with community and grass-roots organizations.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
