Position Overview
The Public Interest Network seeks a Communications Director to convey our messaging and sustain our reputation as a leader in the progressive campaign movement. The Director will build our relationship with the media, coordinate with staff to manage our brand, and launch press campaigns to highlight our victories in areas like stopping global warming, getting antibiotics out of our meat supply, and ending childhood hunger.
The Public Interest Network stands up to powerful special interests on issues to promote clean air and water, protect open space, stop identity theft, fight political corruption, provide safe and affordable prescription drugs, and strengthen voting rights. The Communications Director will help build this brand and make sure our progressive message is reaching the media.
Responsibilities
The Communications Director will work with our graphics department to manage The Public Interest Network's brand. The Director will:
- Manage The Public Interest Network's messaging and reputation.
- Conducting media campaigns to highlight recent campaign victories in our brand and amongst our network partners.
- Drive The Public Interest Network's message development, pitch and announcement strategies.
- Develop branding initiatives, internal communications and external media relations. Ensure that there is consistent branding and messaging across all platforms in the Network.
- Determine communications strategy and deliver those objectives throughout the organization, especially to our graphics department.
- Manage national and local media relations and maximize media opportunities for our brand.
- Develop internal publications such as releases, intranet announcements, video, special projects and assignments.
- Hire and train staff for the graphics department.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in communications, media outreach, and/or public relations.
- Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication ability and have experience in supervising and training staff.
- Related advanced degrees may count towards experience.
